Here is the finished watercolor work for the improvement meme that I did here. Using this drawing, I’ll be showing you the step-by-step process I usually do with my watercolor works. I will try my best to describe what I did with each step, but I shall warn you now that I’m not very good at explaining things, hahaha..

STEP 1. I always make the background wash first in all my works. I usually take 2 colors and mix them on the paper but for this drawing I used only one—which is obviously blue. I think they call what I do the wet-on-wet technique. Not really sure though. But for what I do, I soak the background with water first then I wash it with my choice of color. I don’t do my second wash (with color) in a sweep. I just blot the pigment, so it gives that cloud-like effect you see above. I also included coloring the shirt for this one since they kinda belong to the same color group.

STEP 2. I don’t really have a rule on which part to color first. I just choose which part will be needing more color and work on it from there. So for this next step I chose the jacket. I used the brown pigment with some little amount of red and orange for the lighter parts. For the darker parts, I mixed the brown with very very little amount of black pigment. I painted directly on the paper without the need of washing it with water first. I think this is what they call the wet-on-dry technique, hehehh..

STEP 3. With the same technique in step 2, I colored Kabz’ skin and his shirt on thi step. For the skin color I used the yellow, red and brown pigments (more of yellow). Then the colors red, orange and green for the colorful mushrooms on his shirt. It was fun coloring his shirt! :D!!

Step 4. Again with the same technique, I colored Kabz’ hair and eyes. Pigments used for his hair are blue and black; for his eyes, blue only. I start from the part to be colored lighter then I move on to the ones to be colored darker. This helps me prevent blotting of colors for most parts.

STEP 5. The last and most enjoyable step for me is adding the details. I use my smallest brush for this one and I mix the pigments brown and black for it. For this step, I also touch up parts that I think needed more depth in colors. Like for example his skin. You will notice that it has more darker parts now than the picture on my step 4.

I used Prang watercolors and Canson watercolor papers for this. I don’t erase my pencil sketch when coloring, but I do sketch lightly on the paper. If you have any more questions on my process with watercolors or anything else, just feel free to ask. :)

I initially just wanted to draw french macarons because I was craving for them and then this happy girl appeared, haha! Who wouldn’t be thrilled having some humongous strawberry and pistachio macarons? :D

Hush now, everyone’s asleep.Right here, right now. Literally. :’D
Would you look at that. I used adhesive tape to set a clean cut border for my work then I almost tore my work apart when I removed it, hahaha. Such genius sometimes. :);; I also tried drawing the girl facing the right side, but as you can see I failed miserably—that’s why she had most of her hair covering her face. Also a practice for drawing hands..and not doing anything about the background.

Here’s my second feature for an indie production! Once again, many thanks to Kikko and Shei for inviting me to be one of the guest artists. Primo Ex is all sorts of awesome! * u * )/ I’m looking forward to more of your group’s works!
I’ve taken very few pictures from this summer’s Komikon—I think I got so disoriented with the really huge crowd. It seems to get more and more crowded each year, which is actually great since it just means that more and more people are appreciating locally-made home-grown comics now! YAY :D!!
Oh, and say hi to my sister Kat in the background and Kim’s artwork beside mine in the foreground, hee hee..

This wonderful wound infection on my eyelid is getting worse. It now has some first class state-of-the-art gross itchy pus too. :’| Good thing I’m scheduled for a follow-up checkup tomorrow. Now I’m thinking of ways to hide this for tomorrow’s Komikon. People have suggested that I wear an eye patch but as cool and awesome as that would be, I just can’t risk having it infected even worse, ngrhhh. I’m considering wearing sunglasses but I might scare others off thinking I have conjunctivitis LOL. Ooh, but that sounds rather appealing—knowing the place will be heavily congested with people. MOVE AWAY PEOPLE INCOMING SORE EYES VIRUSSS HAHAHAHA =)) I dunno. Lels.
Anyway, it’s so convenient having our scanner installed in my own PC. Just look how I can easily scan and color tiny doodles like this now, hee hee.. YAY! :’D

I used very limited colors on this one because I’m a lazy ass it will be printed in black and white for this Saturday’s Summer Komikon. I’m very thankful to have been invited again as a guest artist for another sketch compilation. :D
